Both NYC Cyclones Mites AA squads emerged as Tournament Champions in the Ice Vault Turkey Shootout ’16 in Wayne, NJ.  Each team went undefeated in their respective Divisions, bringing the NYC Cyclones weekend total for both teams to an unblemished 10-0.  The Turkey Shootout features Mites teams from across the NY/NJ area. 

Putting all the power skating training they get in practice to work, both squads consistently skated hard, beat opponents to the puck, and moved the puck well with strong passing. The goaltending on both sides was outstanding as well.  

The Mites ‘Blue’ squad finished with the most goals scored (37) and the fewest goals allowed (15) in their Division.  They faced Wayne Hockey in the final game and won 8-5. The Mites ‘Gold’ team notched a total of 40 goals, which lead all teams in the tournament across all Divisions.  They faced the Clifton-Nutley Hockey Club in the final and won 8-4. 

The Cyclones team found time for fun off the ice as well, further developing camaraderie with each other.  A good time was had by all, parents included!

Congratulations to our Mites team and their coaches, Katherine Issel and Mark Williamson, for the hard work and determination that led to an exciting weekend of hockey and development of the Cyclones future. The NYC Cyclones Mites AA team is based at the Sky Rink in Chelsea Piers New York and consists of 17 hockey players aged 6-8 years old.
